What the listening paper asks
The listening paper is worth a tenth of the Tamil grade, and it is the one component a candidate cannot go back over. A recording is played, questions follow, and everything depends on what was heard — the first time, and the second. There is no passage on the desk to re-read and no way to buy time.
That makes it a paper pupils quietly under-prepare for. Reading and writing can be revised in silence at a table; listening cannot be practised at all without the recordings, and a candidate who has only ever heard their own family speak Tamil meets an unfamiliar voice, at examination pace, for the first time on the day.
Practising with the recordings themselves
This is the part that changes with practice rather than with study. The practice plays the real examination recordings, one test at a time, with the questions that follow each — 41 of them, and the Sample is free to try before anything is bought. A pupil can replay a recording as often as they like, which is exactly what the examination will not allow, and that is the point of practising it beforehand.
When listening again stops being useful, the timed mock papers run it under examination conditions instead: ten questions, each recording played twice, and no replays.
What comes with the course
The lessons below carry the recordings and the taught material. It needs no supervision — a parent who does not speak Tamil can still see that a test was sat and how it went.
PSLE Tamil listening Comprehension exam consists of 7 text passages with a total of 10 questions with 2 marks each. It covers 10% of overall PSLE Tamil paper.
Each of the following practice tests contain an audio followed by multiple choice questions that allow the student to answer interactively. The answers are checked and marked automatically.
