Free Tamil Games

Vocabulary and grammar are the parts of Tamil that reward small, frequent practice and punish cramming. These free Tamil games are built for that: thirteen short games a child can play for five minutes without it feeling like homework. They are aligned with the MOE Tamil Language syllabus and grouped by the part of the paper they serve — composition, language use, listening, and the grammar, spelling and vocabulary work that shows up across every PSLE and O-Level paper.

The games

Thirteen games in all, grouped in the arcade above by syllabus component, with the number of levels each holds. A few, to give the idea:

Composition

Power Words

Completes a composition phrase with its power word — the vivid expression that lifts a description above the ordinary.

Composition

Sentence Order

Puts a model composition’s sentences back in order, which is how a child learns what makes a paragraph flow.

Grammar

Verbs in the right tense

Past, present and future — the single most common source of avoidable marks lost in composition.

And more

Ten others

Proverbs and Thirukkural, vocabulary by ear, sound-alike words and their meanings, pronouns, crosswords, word building, missing letters and picture matching.

Difficulty rises within a game rather than across the set, so there is no wrong place to start. A child can open whichever looks appealing and still land on material at roughly the right level within a few rounds.

Who they are for

Primary and Secondary students, at any stage. Nothing here needs to be worked through in order, and progress is saved on the child’s own device, never reported — the point is repetition that a child chooses to do. A game played willingly for five minutes beats a worksheet negotiated for twenty.

They are not a substitute for a course, and they are not pretending to be one. What they do is keep the mechanical layer warm between lessons — the letters, the endings, the words — so that lesson time is spent on the harder work rather than on revision a game can handle.

Taking a PSLE Tamil course? The games that fit it also appear at the end of each lesson, under Practice games.
